Tudors inspiration (PLANNING)

Tudors- inspiration (PLANNING)
The tudors were a massive inspiration that our group had. The tudors is a television series that loosely follows the reign of Henry the VIII. With many series of the tudors we see one followed my Michael Hirst is the latest since 2010. The historical drama Michael Hirst is shown to play is very inspirational and also very intriguing to watch. The title sequence for many thrillers is very different compared to the tudors, however there are some aspects / and elements of the title sequence that we thought will be good to use in our thrillers to give some aspects of the tudor times. The sound editing, titles and the location used was something we looked at when looking at clips from the tudors which we then were planning to use when filming our thriller opening.
Above is a recent image / poster of the tudors 2010 edition
Below i have shown to indicate a clip of the tudors analysing the key aspects of the titles, editing, location and also the sound.

Tudors episode one opening credits.

Editing: The editing was a great inspiration when watching the clip of the tudors as it was different from many thrillers which we will be using when editing the opening of our thrillers. The sequence features a wide range of images including both the old and new Henry the VIII, his past wives and also the paining of the era shown through cut away shots. The cut away shots are very affective as they are quick that are roughly a second long accompanied with sound from the victorian era. Using cut await shots are very effective as they don't give us a lot of information but only an image where the audience can reflect upon. Most cut away shots are used to give the audience a brief idea of the types of things that will come across in the film throughout which the images will then reflect what happens in the film. Cut away shots are used as a puzzle where at the start the puzzle is mixed which then the audience can solve once finished watching. The cut away shots of henry the VIII are shown differently throughout, we see a cutaway shot of Henry the VIII is used to show how calm he is then followed by a sudden flash of him looking very angry and tense. This type of editing used in the opening sequence of the tudors inspired me a lot and will be used when editing the footage for our thriller. When editing to create a detailed and more effective effect we will be using cut away shots as well as different types of shots from out film.

Sound: The sound is also another key aspect used in the opening of the tudors. The sequence as shown above is accompanied with music by Trevor Morris. The music being played is shown to be made up of a variety of instruments which have been put together to generate a certain mood from the tudor era. The sound portrays a lot throughout the opening and gives the connotation of suspense and tension due to the scenes being fast paced and calm in the beginning of the clip. The sound is a good aspect that has been used as it will allow us to see how different emotions can be put forward.

Titles: Looking at the above clip the title of the Tudors is shown to appear constantly in constant fonts, sizes and also a variety of tones. The font is yet simple but very interesting. The font used is also very different from the way normal thriller fonts are portrayed. The colours of the titles are also very simple but interesting as it creates a lot of tension towards the audience. The titles used throughout the opening sequence of the tudors is very inspirational as it works well with the title sequence which will encourage us to use this when making the opening to the thriller.
