Research into film audiences

Film audiences for Thriller films

A thriller is a genre that is usually based on suspense, tension, excitement, adrenalin, action, anxiety and uncertainty. Thrillers usually have a main character (protagonist) who is portrayed as the 'nice guy victim' who doesn't see the real intentions of the 'bad guy villain' (usually the antagonist) falls into their trap and needs to find a way to escape.

Thrillers can be so intense and play on the viewers fears and emotions that the audience for them will generally not be for the faint hearted, or the less intense thrillers will generally be for people who like this suspense and adrenalin it contains, this all depends on the sub-genre of the thriller. The audience for most psychological thrillers will be 18+ as it may contain violence, examples of 18+thrillers include Reservoir Dog and Pulp Fiction, although most thrillers are rated 15+, some examples of 15+ thrillers include Memento and Fatal Attraction, this is the rating that our thriller opening will be based/made around as it will be an appropriate age for the audience to understand the thriller.
