             FEATURES OF A HORROR

The Hills have eyes is a 2006 horror film. The plot of the film is of an American family travelling through the great American southwest and their trip takes a detour into an area closed off from the public, but more importantly from society. An area originally used by the U.S. Government for nuclear testing that was intended to be empty...or so they thought? When the Carter's car breaks down at the old site, they're stranded...or are they? As the Carters may soon realize that what seemed like a car casually breaking down, might actually be a trap. This trap was perpetrated by the inhabitants of the site who are severly deformed and are cannibals the family are then picked off one by one leaving only three and a baby.

Whats good about this trailer and how some of these aspects could be used well with our opening ?
Mise en scene
>The idea of the open space with no one around automatically sets the mood for thriller
>The fact they are only driving with one car so they only have one real way of moving

>The fact where they are has no cell phone connection- we could use this if we set our film back in the days where they only had landlines and we filmed it in an open space

Camera shots
This is a blurred shot of the car and a closeup of the spikes
to show the fact they are blurred out and dont know whats going to happen
extreme longshot of the area and the fact they are alone
Long shot of the people realising they are deserted
closeup of the man in the dark and just his eyes to show he has no idea
whats hes walking in to.
Editing

This image here gets all blurred out to show the emotions of the
girl who is killing the creatures

Sound

> Sirens and then the explosions right at the beginning of the trailer automatically tell us that something has happened here
>Then we hear old country western music to show us the fact that they are far away from civilization and deserted as this brings connotations of old western films in the deserts where hardly any people live.
> After the family see another person on their long drive through the desert , as soon as they leave the man and he wishes them a good trip the music stops. All you hear is the car untill the spikes are heared popping up from the ground and the action begins.
>Then we just hear a series of sound quick as if some one is pressing a button on each fast clip.
>Then throughout the rest of the trailer all you hear are the screams and banging and killing of both the family and the creatures.
