Genre, sub genre and audience

A genre is a category or type of entertainment in media, including film, music and even books. Genre allows a person to chose what they would like to watch, listen to or read, they can be for specific audiences, with specific choices. Within genres there are sub genres, for example thriller; there are psychological thrillers, supernatural and crime thrillers and so on. There are even combinations of thrillers, a common one being rom-coms(romantic comedies).

In the line of fire is a thriller film, perhaps a political or crime thriller because in the poster the characters are dressed very formal and there is the colours of the flag in the background, which can suggest that is a political thriller. There is also a gun in the poster which can show that the film is a crime thriller.
The target audience for this film may be adults, who enjoy watching tension and suspense.

Tower heist is a crime comedy film. It stars Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy, which lets the audience know that it is deffinetly a comedy film, as these two actors are both very well known for comedy.
