Adding Sound

Sound: adding sound and inspirations

Adding sound to the opening sequence is something that would need to be added after our rough cut was done. Adding the sound would be done using Final Cut and will be made as a group as a whole.
As our film is a supernatural thriller our sound will be eerie and building in crescendo, our inspiration will therefore come from previous thrillers of that genre and sub-genre.
The sound track of the thriller Insidious gives the similar sound of this tension we want. It is dark and uncanny and gives the sense of shadows and creep. The occasional screech in the soundtrack gives that motion of attack from a disturbed character.

The soundtrack for the film Fatal Attraction is also an inspiration. Although this film is not a supernatural thriller its tracks have the sense of building tension and suspension. In our sound we would use the high pitched sound in the moment when Ethel commits murder and we could use an increased humming sound for the moments before that.

The music from the thriller Arlington Road is also an form of inspiration. The sound is a crescendo of increased tension with introduction of basses and other instruments; it is a mixture of fast up-tempo to slow pacing sounds. As our film is a discrete opening like Arlington Road this could be an example for us on how to accompany sound with the film itself.
We will use these examples to inspire us when making and putting our sound into our edited film during the lesson.
