The Conventions of film openings

Film Opening Conventions

At the beginning of every film there are opening titles that establishes the production team/company to the viewer, this can range from just two or five and so on.

Film openings always include a little sequence of the production companies logo and sound if added, used by the producers for example the 'Fox Searchlight Pictures' logo as seen in the opening of the film One Hour Photo made in 2002. Other commonly seen productions include '21St Century Fox', 'Dream works Productions', 'Walt Disney Productions' 'Paramount' and 'Metro Golden Myers (MGM)'.

The openings of films also include the films title/name for example 'One Hour Photo' and 'Psycho'.Films can also state the names of the actors and the producers, editors and directors names as opening credits.

Film opening can vary from different design aspects. It can be a simple opening with just black on white writing with different fonts or it can include pictures, colour, typography and graphics that not only relates with the film but is also eye catching to watch. For example the opening of One Hour Photo, which is much simple and does not include names, is much different to that of the film Psycho made in 1960, designed by Saul Bass, which uses graphics to indicate the style of the killer and actors/actresses names.
